About Excel

Excel Modern Integrated Schools (EMIS) formerly Excel Foundation Schools was established  on 7th June 2000, but commenced classes on the 11th of September of the same year, with the name Excel Nursery and Primary School, by the late Mrs. Anna Oghenetega Oyaide nee Eforhare and Engr. Adarighofua Emoakpo Lucky James Oyaide. The desire to set up a modern school, affordable to all, and where solid foundation is laid for academic pursuit were the motivating factors. The review of education policy, where pupils run a 9-year basic education curriculum instead of the former 6-year, necessitated the initial change of name from Excel Nursery and Primary School  to Excel Foundation Schools to accommodate the additional 3 years. Further change of name was made in 2009, when the Corporate Affairs Commission reviewed names that cannot be registered as business names. An inspired name emerged, which actually captured our activities as a corporate body.

EMIS presently runs pre-school, Lower Basic (Pry 1-3), Middle Basic (Pry 4-6), Upper Basic  (JSS1-3) and Senior Secondary (SS1 -3). The ability to manage all the groups in one place is novel – hence modern integrated. Each school appreciating the other is part of learning that takes place daily.

The change in name notwithstanding our mission remains the same “Lay a solid foundation for empowerment at an affordable cost” as we are concerned with nurturing of young ones to  survive later in life. To achieve this mission, we have in place a number of objectives covering; intellectual, cultural, vocational, social, religious and athletics. We expect each particular talent of its members to emerge, while carrying out certain activities in the community. Both staff and students are involved in a network of human relationships, directed towards assisting and encouraging students to recognize that life of the community depends on the contribution of each member. We are non-racial, non-tribal and secular educational institution that caters for all pupils/students, Muslims and Christians alike and recognize that an excellent education of a child, determines his or her future.

Located on a half hectare of land, in a serene vicinity, conducive for academics; and situated between a tributary of Kaduna River and Kachia Road, known as Ungwan Makama in the southern part of Kaduna metropolis. The school commenced operation with the enrollment of 8pupils in September 11, 2001 and has grown to the present status of about four hundred as at July 2011. The average class size is 25 for lower and middle basic, while it is 45 in the upper basic and senior secondary.  The marginal growth experienced will surely improve in due course as the school has obtained all recognition and been granted all examination centers as requested. Infrastructural improvement will now propel us to the next level and increase in enrollment. Pupils are expected to learn, assimilate and eternalize what has been learnt.

We are glad to note that the surroundings of the schools have opened up and neighbouring communities now recognize the presence of a leading group of schools within their easy reach. Our staff population presently stands at about 60 for both teaching and for non-teaching staff.  Our pride is the quality of personnel and products. We believe every human being is special and must be accorded that special treatment. Improvement of our infrastructure is a continuous feature. We have a modern halls, standard  science laboratories; foods and nutrition laboratory and well equipped computer laboratory. These have been approved by the Ministry of Education and the Kaduna State Private Schools Board, as standard Examination Centre for both WAEC and NECO. We commenced writing the State’s Junior Secondary Schools examination on the 30th of June 2010.

Expansion of the existing two-storey building was carried out to accommodate the  library and elective class rooms. With the support of our caring parents, the computer laboratory is functioning very well. The 24hours internet service is another unique feature available to the students. Our sporting facilities are also being improved upon as our relay teams are our delight. Basket ball and volley ball, table tennis, high jump and football, are some of the outdoor sporting activities the students have embraced. The brain tasking indoor games like chess, scrabble, monopoly and even eko (ayo) are also embraced by the students. It is on record that EMIS pioneered transportation of pupils to and fro school daily and regularly. This has helped to remove stress from parents, especially the working class. We have also included bus services for secondary students who desire it, just as we provide for the Primary classes to alleviate their movement problems. Pupils/Students are now being comfortably taken to and fro home to school daily.

All things being equal, we keep striving to make going to school a pleasure and something that the children will always look forward to.
